    Love how it has been written , direct & informative no gloating no bragging it just lays out the events in a clear and what seems to be a genuine manner from someone whom I have no reason to Dowt was truly involved.

    This was an amazing story. Many people think that when the Civil War ended, the violence stopped. Well, this book tells a different story. I guess the movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales" was probably more truth than fiction.

    Quite interesting as a memoir, though not reliable as history. I trust that McCorkle was truthful concerning the events in which he was an actual participant, at least as much as memory and vanity would permit. However, he relates the personal history of William Quantrill just as he heard it from Quantrill, without question. Quantrill lied as he killed, for gain and pleasure. Essential reading for students of the guerrilla war in Missouri.

    Short but sweet first hand account of Quantrill and his raiders. Unlike most first hand accounts of this era this seems exceedingly truthful and accurate.
